As the road dwindles off into the distance still lined by buildings, you get an accurate impression of the endlessness of Karachi. Our liason told us (if my memory serves me right) that the official census of Karachi was 7 million but realistically had at least twice as many inhabitants. One day we told Jimmy to take us around town. We spent all afternoon riding around and the place just went on and on and on. I lent my camera that day to a co-traveller who lost his when his luggage went astray, so I don't have any pictures of that day other than mental. But I'll share one with you -- when we came to one river, both banks were exclusively taken up, as far as the eye could see, by laundries of the stone pounding cloth in water variety.
