Tim Mullen, computer security expert, has proposed that if a malicious process on another computer is attacking your computer, you should be able to go and kill it on the other computer — what Mullen calls “strike back”. It sounds like a good idea to me – and oddly enough, Mullen has found that most of us outside the security business think so too. It’s the security experts who are having a hard time with it. The trouble with common sense is that it isn’t common.
